Canoe and Kayak Store is an independently owned, specialist paddle-sport store based in Gloucestershire. We also have a store in South Wales inside the Cardiff International White Water Centre, where you can Demo our boats and paddles on the course.

Our roots trace back to the year 2000 when Richard (having paddled since he was a child) was offered the chance to buy a canoe business. Loving the industry but not liking the company he decided to set up his own – opening a shop in Gloucestershire and leading to where we are today!

The Broadland 16 is a stable paddle, thanks to its improved chine, camber and sidewall profile. A symmetrical hull and carefully designed rocker mean the Broadland range will paddle well in either solo or tandem.
Silverbirch canoes are proudly designed and made in the UK. Each canoe is made by craftsmen in a purpose built production facility in Norfolk. Every aspect of a canoe’s production and testing process is recorded by the industry leading quality control system. This ensures full traceability of materials and the quality is consistent throughout.
Before production begins, all new designs undergo a meticulous testing and set up process. To make sure boats are as durable and light as possible, the plastic distribution is perfected. The cook is also tuned to ensure the polymer is perfectly cured every time. Each and every canoe is then tested thoroughly at Quality Control. This ensures the high standards that Silverbirch are known for.
The Broadland 16 comes in Duracore and Duralite laminates. Vinyl trims are fitted as standard and come with webbing seats, ash handles and an ash carrying yoke. This gives a durable and low maintenance outfitting option. Beautiful, handcrafted ash gunwales are an optional extra. Every canoe with ash gunwales is hand finished at the Norfolk production facility. They are planed and oiled by hand after being carefully fitted. They are then matched with ash end plates, ash handles and carrying yoke, and webbing bound ash seats. Ash trims are several kilos lighter than the vinyl alternative and give a beautiful natural finish.
If you require ash trims instead of vinyl, please contact us on 01454 261058.
Please see below weight differences between the vinyl and the ash trims:
      Vinyl Gunwales:

      Broadland 15: Duracore- 34.25kg Duralite- 29.5kg

The Broadland range is available in two lengths- Broadland 15 at 14’11” and Broadland 16 at 15’11”. Both lengths are also available in Hi line, incorporating additional depth to an already versatile Broadland range. Hi line models are suitable for those who push their boats hard in exposed open water or in advanced white water.

      Technical Information

Our Polyethylene canoes are available in two specially developed constructions:
Duracore is a tough and durable three-layer Polyethylene material. Made to last with a tough, high-density outer skin, a closed cell foam core, and a medium density inside skin to help dissipate the energy from impacts. Duracore is made with a tough, UV stable, and abrasion resistant outer skin, and is easily repairable at home should you ever have an accident and damage it.
Duralite is made with an incredibly stiff tough whitewater grade plastic- the best we can find. The foam has been optimized to have a lower density, giving us a thicker core than that used in Duracore. The material distribution between the layers has been optimized to make the most of the superior materials. The result? Stiffer, lighter, and yet just more durable! The noticeable weight saving over our Duracore laminate puts many models made with Duralite into close competition with more expensive canoes produced with composite or royalex construction methods.

Delivery is free for all orders to mainland UK totaling over £50 (some exclusions apply).

Deliveries to Northern Ireland, Highlands and Islands are not included as mainland UK for delivery purposes. We will check with our carriers prior to delivery and may contact you by email or telephone if further carriage charges are necessary. You will have the opportunity to accept or cancel the order.

Some items, such as Royalex and composite canoes, cannot be sent with a carrier as they may get damaged in transit. In such cases, we will inform you by email or telephone immediately on receipt of your order to make alternative arrangements. This may involve carriage charges which will be agreed prior to delivery. If you collect the goods, any delivery charges will be refunded.

The total delivery charge will be shown at the checkout stage of the ordering process.

We reserve the right to change this delivery charge policy at any time and without notice.

Our aim is that orders received by noon Monday – Friday will be shipped that day.

We send orders by carrier or Royal Mail Recorded Delivery, both of which will require a signature on receipt. If there is nobody available at the delivery address to accept delivery a card will be left to inform the recipient of where the parcel can be collected. If the recipient fails to collect the parcel in good time the goods will be returned to us and a charge will be made for redelivery to that or an alternative address.

In the event that you select a business address for delivery, we shall be deemed to have delivered the order to its intended recipient by delivering it to the reception area of the business address.

With Pre-Launch, the date when we expect to receive the product ourselves is still a little too hazy to be confident in accepting Pre-Orders.
