We are now stocking the Kayacat Puma...
The Kayacat is like nothing we have ever used, sold or paddled before! We had the opportunity to take it out and play with it over the last few weeks, oh what fun! Apart from looking very intriguing and catching everyone's eye in the shop and being super lightweight. It's crazy that this can be used as a solo kayak, a tandem kayak, a SUP or you can even add a sail (for an extra cost). The fact it looks like a catamaran is just bonkers, all this at only 6kgs and every single component that makes it all these toys in one, is able to fit into a small backpack which is suitable as carry on luggage for most airlines. Everything you need to get on the water is included, core float, PUMA frame, paddle, leash, pump and repair kit.
This transformer of paddlesport brings all our favourites hobbies together, making them more mobile, and portable. Meaning if you are going on holiday with your family and you want something to play on in the sea and can't make your mind up then this is the toy for you! You don't have to worry about having a roof rack and tying it down, worrying about loosing it off the top of your car, it will simply fit in your boot, even the footwell. This is the perfect solution to all the people we see come into the shop that have motorhomes and campervans and don't want to try and wedge a plastic kayak in their vans or on top of their high roofs.
When the Puma is set up as a solo kayak the black cross struts remain zipped up so the core float is in narrow mode. The seat can be adjusted forward or back by sliding it up and adjusting the velcro so that your feet are in the optimum position on the grippy foot pads for paddling. This then means you just unclip the backrest and lay it flat on the seat, switch your paddle over to SUP set up and you can stand on the seat and SUP.
To transform this into wide/tandem mode then you need to use the seat extension bars to make the frame wider, simply un-strap the seat from the frame, insert the extension bars and then re-attached the seat as tight as you can, it will be wider this time, then unzip the cross struts as far as the zips will open and then re-inflate the struts, strap the frame back onto the Kayacat and hey presto you have a tandem kayak!
The complete package fits into a backpack that is 65cm x 40cm x 20cm (which can fit most airline carry on regulations) with a handy chest strap, weighing only 6kg and only taking 10 minutes to inflate with a manual pump, there are hours of fun to be had on Kayacat Puma.
The Puma is great fun for all the family and tracks really well while paddling because of the cutting motion of its catamaran style double floats through the water. It's very easy to manoeuvre and turns very quickly, due to the amount of contact it has with the water.
To pack away, it only takes 5 mins, you should always rinse it down with fresh water, especially after being in the sea before allowing it to dry and storing it in its bag. Remember to remove and disassemble all the items attached to the floats and then open the four transparent deflation valves. Once most of the air has come out then roll each float up forcing any excess air out, unroll and lay one on top of the other and roll up tightly to pack away. Make sure you remember to place everything back in the bag so you don't lose anything.
